Thursday 18 April at 6.30pm at the Musée de l'Abbaye, Saint-Claude.

Stéphane Niveau looks back at the extraordinary life of Paul-Émile Victor, 20th-century polar explorer and adopted native of the Jura. Then there will be a signing session for the comic strip "Paul-Émile Victor, la soif d'aventure", written by Stéphane Niveau and Stéphane Dugast.

Paul-Émile Victor is an iconic explorer of the 20th century. He was a curious surveyor of the polar worlds, who died at the age of 87 after a life worthy of an adventure novel, in turn an ethnologist, entrepreneur, writer, cartoonist and great defender of nature. Born in Geneva in 1907, Paul-Émile Victor grew up in the Jura. Rivers, mountains and forests of fir, boxwood and cyclamen were the backdrop to his early explorations. Stéphane Niveau, former director of the Paul-Emile Victor Polar Centre and then of the Espace des mondes Polaires in Prémanon, will talk about the extraordinary life of this polar explorer who didn't like the cold...
The lecture will be followed by a signing session for the comic book written by Stéphane Niveau and Stéphane Dugast and illustrated by Laurent Seigneuret (out April 2024).
