La fraternelle - dance: Shirley "Compagnie Balkis Moutashar
Thursday 10 October at 7pm at the Maison du Peuple, Saint-Claude.
Balkis Moutashar Company:
- design, choreography, performance, costumes / Balkis Moutashar
- music / Shirley Basset
- arrangements / Géraldine Foucault
- lighting / Bertrand Bali
- development and distribution / Pascale Cherblanc
- administrative manager / Léa Jousse
Shirley is a short solo by the choreographer based around the figure of the diva, an 'entre-sort' for a reduced space and audience, created to a commission from the Friche la Belle de Mai in Marseille for their 'folies foraines' event.
Shirley is a slightly strange diva, at once beautiful, disturbing and sometimes funny, whose rhinestone helmet and clothes of light are first covered by a large cape that creates curious shapes.
To the sound of music that constantly stops and takes the wind out of her sails, Shirley plays on what is hidden as well as what is revealed, revealing a figure that is as seductive as she is offbeat, even disjointed, both joyful and slightly disturbing, redrawing the codes of the variety shows that fill our common imagination.
