HAUTS DE BIENNE

After a 100-year wait, the Summer Olympics are finally coming back to France. From 26 July to 11 August, and then from 28 August to 8 September, Paris will become Olympic territory. The town of Morez, which has been awarded the Paris 2024 "Land of the Games" label since 2020, has chosen to be part of the action! It seemed obvious to the town council that it should be involved in this major international event. So, from 19 to 22 June, various sports-themed events will take place, culminating in a sports day:

From 19/06: Opening of the new exhibition "Glasses made for sport".

"Don't you run the 100 metres in moccasins? It's the same with glasses" (Gilles Demetz). As part of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Musée de la Lunette is staging a temporary exhibition entitled "Glasses made for sport" from 20 June 2024 to 16 March 2025. Discover how technology, ergonomics, comfort and design define these new generations of eyewear. It's just a short step from visual protection to improved sporting performance! The exhibition was created with the support of the DRAC Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and in partnership with Bollé, Cébé, Jeantet, Julbo and Vuarnet.

See you at 6.30pm at the Museum for the exhibition preview.

Festina lente, se hâter lentement" exhibition

2024 is the Olympic year in France. We will be honouring youth, performance, competition, speed, strength, the will to win... the values of the modern world that have made it great and also its misfortune. Fear of growing old, of not performing well enough, of not improving, of not being assertive enough, and so on. The Atelier d'Art domestique and its artists wanted to take a counterpoint by affirming the virtues of slowness, collaboration, fragility, the absence of ambition, and love rather than winning.

See you at 7pm for the vernissage at the Atelier d'art domestique - until 22/06 from 11am to 6pm.

Des bleus dans les jeux" exhibition

A presentation of France's greatest achievements at the Olympic Games.

Salle d'Honneur, Morez town hall, until 22 June - 11am to 6pm

20/06: "Mots pour maux Olympe Hic" comedy show

Salim Nalajoie returns to Morez-Haut de Bienne with his show "Mots pour Maux". Yes, but... There's a snag, alas, and that's where the bone lies! It's Olympus: the gods of Olympus are huffing and puffing because this year sport is in the spotlight throughout the city. But Salim Nalajoie has come up with a show in which all the improvisations are linked to sport, as if to overcome this obstacle. Mots pour Maux is a variable-geometry show of poetry and humorous, joyful, humanist improvisation. Rendezvous at the Friche en herbe at 8pm - Open to all

21/06: Music festival

This year's Fête de la musique will be a sporting occasion. The Orchestres à L'Ecole, the Union Musicale Morézienne and the MoreZ'On will perform the first part of the evening in front of the Musée de la Lunette. They will then give way to the 'Bikers', Savoyard musicians who are not afraid to mix sport and music. See you on the Museum forecourt from 7pm.

22/06: "Sport en fête" day

Meet at Place Jean Jaurès from 11.30am to 7pm.
All day long, come and discover a wide range of sporting disciplines, with shows, demonstrations and introductory workshops. The whole place will be decked out in the colours of the Paris 2024 Games!

There will be fencing, hockey, badminton, laser rifle shooting, slackline, non-contact rugby, BMX, break dancing and freestyle football. The latter will be coached by Gautier FAYOLLE, 7-times individual world champion and 4-times Freestyle Football team champion. Breakdance and BMX demonstrations will also be given by professionals. To take part in the workshops, a stand bearing the Morez colours will be waiting for you to sign up from 11.15am to 4.45pm. A small gift will be given to the most active athletes of the day. The Comité Départemental Olympique et Sportif du Jura and the Comité Départemental Handisport du Jura will also be present.

Show programmes :

Freestyle Football - 11.30am to 5.45pm
Freestyle football is the art of juggling one or more balls, combining acrobatics, dance and football moves.

BMX Flat - 2pm to 2.55pm
This spectacular and elegant sport is based on balance and a series of figures on the ground. You ride a BMX bike on a flat surface.

Breakdance - 3.55pm to 4.45pm
Breakdance is a dance style characterised by jerky body movements, acrobatics and floor tricks.

Closing ceremony: 5.45pm
To round off the day, come and meet two volunteer club leaders from Morézie who will be taking part in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games from the inside:

Bernard PERRIN, who will be the town's official representative as a torchbearer during the Olympic torch relay on Tuesday 25 June in the Doubs region.
Florent LORGE, President of Jura Vertical, will be an official judge for the climbing competitions at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. He has been appointed by the Fédération Française de Montagne et d'Escalade and the Organising Committee for the Olympic Games.
A third person will be representing Les Hauts de Bienne: Léïa Bonfigli from La Mouille, who will also be carrying the flame in the Doubs region on 25 June 2024. However, she will not be able to attend the closing ceremony.

At the end of the ceremony, the municipality will offer a vin d'honneur to the public!

Other sports workshops will be held throughout the day, including fencing, hockey, badminton, laser rifle shooting, slackline and non-contact rugby. Details of the event can be found in our flyer, which is available from Morez town hall, the Haut-Jura Gorges de la Bienne tourist office and local shopkeepers.

The three sports-related exhibitions listed below can also be viewed free of charge from 11am to 6pm.

Adopt a tree" campaign
The "twin tree" donated to the Centre school, winner of the "Adopt a tree" scheme as part of Terre de Jeux 2024, will be planted in the school playground at an official ceremony on 17 or 18 June (details to follow).
