In the working class history of Saint-Claude, cafés and circles (private cafés) played an essential role in sociability and political education. In December 1902, when the cooperative La Fraternelle took over the management of the café at 12, rue de la Poyat, the idea of the Maison du peuple de Saint-Claude finally became a reality. The café has been reopened by the association La Fraternelle since 1996, thanks to the acquisition of a Licence IV. However, since 1988, the activity of the members of the association had made it possible to reanimate this room of the Maison du peuple; it was completely renovated in 2003.
Like the Maison du peuple building, the café room is a private place that lives thanks to the commitment and action of the association's volunteers and employees
The café is managed by an employee and a team of volunteers grouped together in the "coffee committee". It is in charge of the commercial management, the coordination of the use of the place and the implementation of an animation program: frat' Thursdays (in connection with local associations), debate evenings, game evenings, "bistro bazaar", musical impromptus, open stages, festive days, etc..
La Fraternelle is a partner of the Pass'Malin Jura 2020 and the Carte Avantages Jeunes.
